Description

It was in 1993 that passion for wine led Jean-Pierre and Sabine CLAUZEL, from a long line of winemakers (family estates : Château l’Evangile and Château Nénin in Pomerol), to take over Château La Grave FIGEAC, Hitherto owned by the same family for five generations, and with the same passion that Laurent, was formed in viticulture-oenological, to take over the torch when the time will come …

La Grave Figeac has been in organic conversion since 2009. Its sandy-gravelly structure with its subsoil of iron grime, its terroir is particularly conducive to the cultivation of vines :
– warm soil, it promotes an early maturity of the grapes.
– filtering soil, it ensures a good drainage of rainwater.
– poor soil, it constrains the vine to a deep rooting.

With an area of 6.65 hectares, the vineyard is planted with 65% Merlot, giving the wine roundness and suppleness, and 35% Cabernet Franc, giving it structure and finesse. Aged 35 to 40 years old, the vines are in adulthood, and their renewal is done by rooting (replacement of the dead vines in the year). This castle is located in Grands Crus area (surrounded by Cheval Blanc, Figeac and La Conseillante). The aging is done in thermo-regulated tanks and in oak barrels (34% new oak).
