Description

The Mayard vineyards have been a family estate for 6 generations in Chateauneuf-du-Pape.

The vineyard was completely decimated in the 19th century by phylloxera. It was Gratien Mayard, an ancestor passionate about his vines, who reconstituted it, vine plant after vine plant.

He passed on to his descendants, Marie Louise and Alphonse Mayard, his estate and his love of the land and the vine. They were the pioneers in the marketing of bottled wines from 1923, selling their Châteauneuf-du-Pape for export and placing their wines on the greatest tables of French restaurants.

AN EMBLEMATIC TERROIR : The vineyard extends over 43 hectares located in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, on the place called “Grand Coulet” and on the plateau of “Crau” mainly, bringing together very varied terroirs. The estate includes around thirty plots, some of which were planted more than a century ago, with 11 different grape varieties.

It is this great diversity of clay, limestone and sandy soils, very often with the presence of rolled pebbles, reflecting the heat during the night, which gives the wines their aromas, perfect ripeness of the grapes and which explains the complexity and the uniqueness of Châteauneuf-du-Pape wines.

A passionate team has enabled the estate to turn to organic farming, respectful of the environment and integrating a great biodiversity in the vines. Particular attention is paid to the terroirs and the quality of the grapes.

The harvest is manual, in order to scrupulously choose the right grapes and not to damage them.
