Description

The Château Cassagne Haut-Canon is located on one of the highest points of Fronsac. It enjoys one of the best exhibitions in the appellation and breathtaking views of the Dordogne. The soil is clay-limestone, with shallow stony soils on limestone rock at Astéries, with sloping hillsides on Molasses du Fronsadais

The plot selection “La Truffière”, owes its name to the presence of truffle oaks on the property. This wine is born from a subtle blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc.

Zita and Jean-Jacques Dubois (talented oenologist, internationally renowned), perpetuate a know-how from father to son for five generations. Passionate owners, they invest fully in order to make the most of their exceptional terroir. The vineyard is a real mosaic, rich in nuances where all the exhibitions, all the soil types of the appellation are represented. The grape variety is composed of 60% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon. The vines have an average age of 40 to 45 years.

The grape harvests are manual, the winemaking is rigorous and done seperatly for each plot (custom vinifications of each tank), with long temperature-controlled macerations. The breeding lasts 2 years minimum, including 15 months in French oak barrels, with 30 to 40% new barrels. Bottling takes place at least two years after the harvest. Jean-Jacques Dubois produces wines of great aging. Many old vintages in Cassagne Haut-Canon and in “La Truffière” selection, bottle or magnum, are available on request (2002, 2006, 2007).
