Description

Owner of Grand Corbin-Despagne in Saint-Emilion for more than 2 centuries, the Despagne family shares the same love of a vineyard and respect for tradition for seven generations.
The name of Despagne is attached to the Saint-Emilion land since at least the beginning of the XVIIth century.
The oldest known document is the baptism in 1665 of the son of Pierre Despagne, ox laborer and Lison Raynaud.
Their descendant, Louis Despagne, born in 1789, will be the architect of the family boom.

In 1812, not far from Cheval Blanc, where his family was a sharecropper, he moved to a place called Corbin and acquired the first family plots.
His son enlarges Grand-Corbin – owner Despagne.
It is towards the end of the 19th century that Château Grand Corbin-Despagne appears. In the twentieth century, Paul Despagne, exceptional winemaker, gives his reputation to the property, thanks to the quality and regularity of the wines he produces.
The different generations brought their know-how and from the first classification of Crus de Saint-Emilion, the property was recognized as worthy of Grand Cru Classé.

Today the seventh generation of the same family represented by François Despagne directs this wine and respectfully perpetuates these heritage values.
Located north of the Saint-Emilion appellation, bordering Pomerol, the vineyard of Château Grand Corbin-Despagne is located on two main types of soil: sandy clay with iron grime and ancient clay sands.
All vineyard operations necessary for harvesting berries at optimum maturity are achieved. The manual harvest makes it possible to respect all the berries.
They are sorted multiple times.
Each batch from separate plots is vinified according to its potential, controlled by observations, analyzes and tastings.
